After despatching their previous opponents 492 SQN 7-1 in Solihull 121 SQN were ready to continue their 100% winning streak when they played 479 Rubery SQN.
On the morning of Sunday 21 st January the boys boarded the mini bus and were on their way to Bramcote Army Barracks.
At 10.30 the whistle blew and they were underway with 121 making the most of their speed and agility. After 4 minutes of play their persistence paid off as the ball was thundered into the back of the net swiftly followed by number 2 and number 3.
Despite strong defensive play by 479 SQN 121 held on to their advantageous lead and even added a fourth 10 minutes before half time.
However a lapse in concentration for the home side and some sloppy defending gifted the visitors 479 a late goal just as half time approached. 121 stood firm as 479 attacked well into extra time at the end of the first half.
After a strong team talk lead by Flt Lt Crewe and CI Howes 121 were ready to put the game to bed and as a carbon copy of the first half 121 scored with just 3 minutes on the clock.
479 strung some good passages of play together but were lacking the execution in the final third. However 121 did not squander their chances as they added a sixth followed by a seventh with 10 minutes remaining.
479 although looking at an impossible task of winning still hung on to defend as much as they could but it was all in vein as in the final minute of injury time 121 scored a sloppy goal but goal nonetheless
Final score 121 (Nuneaton) Sqn 8 ~ 479 (Rubery) Sqn 1
