On Sunday 03 rd September cadets from 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron joined forces with cadets from several other Squadrons within the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing to form a single team to compete against five other wing teams at the Central and East Regional field day at Royal Air Force Wittering.
As the holders of the prestigious Fazackerley Tray trophy, awarded to them for being the best overall wing at the Central and East regional field day in 2005 the cadets of Warwickshire & Birmingham had a lot to live up to and knew they had a significant amount of work to do in order to defend their title.
In the full marching band competition, the 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron Band, which was representing the wing for the forth year in succession, put on a magnificent display with a completely new musical running order. Unfortunately despite all the hard work and preparation their attempt to reach the national finals was unsuccessful, they did however manage a very healthy score, which earned them second place for the second time in succession.
The Squadron also represented the wing in the Regional Photographic Competition with Flt Lt Paul Hincks taking 2 nd place in the Staff Section and Cdt Cpl McKeown being placed 4 th in the Cadet section.

Unfortunately despite all the best efforts of everyone who represented the wing at this years Regional Training Day the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing team came 4 th in the Best overall Wing competition and subsequently did not manage to retain the Fazackerley Tray trophy, which this year was awarded to South & East Midlands Wing.
The Officer In Charge of the team representing Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing at the Regional competition, Flt Lt Chris Mumford said, "As the OIC of the Regional Field Day it gave me great pleasure to be part of such an enthusiastic team, all of whom showed that a lot of time and effort had been put into training you to the standard that was shown on the day. In my opinion all our cadets were winners on the day as they showed real determination to want to do their best. Well done to you all and I will look forward to seeing you at future events."
The Deputy Wing Commander, Sqn Ldr Martin Harrison congratulated the wing team when he said, "On behalf of the Wing Commander may I thank the various adult staff members who have attended and supported the Wing today at RAF Wittering, but of course and most importantly you the cadets. I really do appreciate the effort and hard work you have put into your individual competitions to reach this stage today. Although we have not achieved quite as much as last year, you are here, have entered into the spirit of it and done your best, we can ask no more, as it is the entering and not winning that is the important thing."
