On Sunday 23 rd November 2008 Air Cadets from 121 ( Nuneaton ) Squadron joined Cadets from other Squadrons from across the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing as they descended on Tudor Grange Park in Solihull for the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Cross Country Championships. The day started out wet, muddy and extremely cold but as the competition got underway things soon warmed up with cadets from 121 Squadron putting in some outstanding performances.
Most notable performances from the boys came from Cdt FS Jonathan Kendall who came home in first place in the Junior Men's race and Cdt Liam Tuff who got third place in the Junior Boys.
But it was the three members of the Squadron's Junior Girls team all taking part in their first Air Cadet sporting event who looked most likely to come home with a team trophy with Cdt Gemma Porter taking first and Cdt Sarah Painter coming in sixth. Unfortunately despite a valiant effort the third member of the team was unable to finish the race.
As a result of their outstanding performances Cdt FS Kendall and Cdt's Porter and Tuff were selected to represented the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing at the Regional Cross Country Championships which took place at RAF Cranwell on Sunday 7 th December 2008.
Flt Lt Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 Squadron said, “With two Gold medals and a Bronze together with some other very strong performances, the cadets from 121 Squadron all gave the opposition a good run for their money. Every one of the cadets who came out to represent their Squadron in such awful weather conditions should be congratulated for their efforts.
Following the Regional Cross Country Championships we can now announce that Cdt FS Kendall has been further selected to represent the Central & East Region in the Junior Men's event at the Corps Championships on 28 March 2009.
