On Saturday 14th July the band of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron Air Training Corps made its début at the Godiva festival Carnival Procession.
The Air Cadet Band joined more than 1500 other performers as the streets of Coventry came to life to celebrate 10 years of the award winning Godiva Festival & carnival.
This year’s carnival theme took a journey around the globe to discover where carnival comes from starting with Medieval Coventry and Lady Godiva. Samba Bands, Dhol Drummers, Sound Systems and the Air Cadet Band from Nuneaton provided the music to support a fantastic spectacle of colour and movement, costumed dancers, stunningly decorated hand pushed floats and large scale backpack costumes.
The Godiva Carnival Procession is a major part of a three day festival of free family fun, music and entertainment to celebrate the city's historic connection with Lady Godiva.
Flight Lieutenant Ian Crewe Officer Commanding 121 Squadron said, “Our band has taken part in many other carnivals but the Godiva festival Carnival is something quite different. You really have to see some of the costumes and floats to be able to appreciate the amount of work that goes into them. It was a long day for the cadets, they all did a fantastic job and I hope we get the opportunity to repeat the experience again next year.” |
