One of the primary aims of the Air Training Corps is to promote
and develop a spirit of good citizenship amongst our young people.
With this objective in mind the squadron has formed close relationships
with many local community and ex-service organisations.
As well as helping out within our local community the squadron
is also involved with fund raising events for national organisations
such as the Royal British Legion and the Royal Airforce Association.
In the year 2000 one of our cadets was selected to take part in
the Millennium Falcon Flight which was a major charity event to
celebrate the year 2000. The Air Cadet organisation raised a total
of £328,000 for other charities, which was matched pound for
pound by BAE Systems. To mark the event a flight of three Vigilant
motor gliders set off from RAF Cottesmore on a 3000 nautical mile
trip around Britain incorporating all six regions of the Air Cadet
organisation. Our cadet joined the Millennium Falcon Flight at RAF
Little Rissington and completed one leg of this nation-wide charity
event.
